Person wearing invisible braces

Are you considering straightening your teeth with Invisalign invisible braces? Like many people you likely have questions. The team at Platinum Dental Care have the answers to all your questions concerning this treatment.  Below are just a few questions that we have heard over the many years we have been offering this treatment.

1. Am I too old / young for Invisalign?

Orthodontic treatments aren’t just for teenagers! Whether you are 12 years old or 50 years old, you may be eligible to use invisible braces to transform your smile provided your permanent teeth have grown in and you have a mild to moderate misalignment (malocclusion).

2. How long will it take to correct my teeth?

Just as each patient is unique, each treatment schedule is unique.  Generally, the treatment time with Invisalign is shorter than with traditional braces. At Platinum Dental Care we see treatment schedules as short as 12 months.

3. Do I have to wear the aligners all the time?

In order to achieve your desired result, it is recommended that the aligners be worn 20 – 22 hours every day. If you do not commit to following the treatment schedule laid out by Dr. Levy and his team, it will take longer to achieve your transformed smile.

4. Do I wear the aligners when I eat?

No.  Your Invisalign trays should be removed when you eat. One of the many benefits of using Invisalign over traditional braces is that you are not restricted in what you can eat. The “no chewing gum rule” does not apply, providing you remove your aligners before chewing gum.

5. Is there a cleaning regiment I will have to follow?

Yes. It is very important to brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day and always after eating as food can get stuck in between your teeth. If you do not brush, food and bacteria is left in your aligners and can lead to tooth decay and cavities.

In addition to brushing and flossing your teeth you also need to keep your Invisalign trays clean to prevent bacteria growing in your trays. It is not recommended that you brush them with toothpaste as this could damage the tray. A gentler cleansing method, such as soap and water, is recommended just be sure and rinse them thoroughly.

6. Will I need to wear a retainer after my Invisalign treatment?

After you have completed the full Invisalign treatment it is very important to wear a retainer. If you do not commit to wearing a retainer, you run the risk of your teeth shifting back to their original position.
