It’s Time to See The Dentist Toronto!

A study from Yale shows that men and women smile almost the same amount. Male or female, a regular dentist appointment can protect your beautiful grin.

Who do you think smile more – women or men? You might guess women, and, for the most part, you would be right. However, the difference between the two sexes is much less significant than you might think. A psychological study out of Yale University reveals that, in certain scenarios, men and women smile at an almost identical rate. For this reason, it is equally vital for both men and women to take good care of their teeth. Whatever your sex, a dentist appointment at our Toronto practice can prevent decay, discoloration, and gum disease. We also offer specialized treatments to address aesthetic concerns. These procedures can be just as beneficial for men as they can be for women. After all, at Platinum Dental Care, we believe that everyone of every age deserves a stunning smile.

The Smile Score: Women vs. Men
Marianne LaFranc, a psychology professor and researcher at Yale, conducted a study to examine the rate of smiling between women and men. After analyzing 186 different reports, LaFranc and her team concluded that women smile more than men but not by a huge percentage. Interestingly, they found that the difference was greater in the US and Canada than in other parts of the world. The team also discovered that age was a huge factor. According to the study, male teens smile far less than females of the same age.

The study also revealed something interesting about the workplace and professional relationships. LaFranc noted that when men do not know they are being observed, they smile more often. Men and women tend to smile the same amount when they are in leadership or certain social roles. LaFranc surmised that smiling is a behavior that conforms to certain preconceived gender roles. However, over time, the playing field begins to level out. The expression becomes an almost equally important interaction for both sexes.

The Significance of Regular Dental Visits

Your smile affects how people perceive you. It impacts your working relationships, your leadership, and your self-confidence. For all of these reasons, it is imperative that you take care of your oral health. Man or woman, routine dental visits are essential. At your appointments, your hygienist will clean your teeth, removing the plaque, tartar, and bacteria that lead to decay and gum disease. These visits are also crucial because your dentist can diagnose existing conditions early on. Then he or she can treat them before they compromise your overall dental wellness or your appearance.

Cosmetic Dental Care for Men

Men may not be as open about it, but cosmetic blemishes can be equally embarrassing for both sexes. Fortunately, cosmetic dental treatments are appropriate for both men and women. Teeth whitening is one of the most popular and effective options. In fact, we believe so strongly in the power of a sparkling smile that we offer free whitening treatment with every new patient exam, x-rays, and cleaning. We also provide dental crowns. Usually a restorative option, tooth-colored crowns are sometimes a good way to improve internally stained, worn, or misshapen teeth. Finally, clear braces by Invisalign can improve both oral health and the look of a crooked grin.
